Achievers creates HR solution to help HR professionals with employee recognitions. When an employee finishes a project, or goes above and beyond, their manager or their peers can recognize their achievements through the Achievers platform, and they may reward the employee with kind words or points to collect. The collected points will then be able to be redeemed through the Achievers Marketplace (née Catalog). I actually was able to redeem a MacBook Pro and an iPad from my Achievers points!

I worked with a mobile PM in San Francisco and a head of UX in Toronto. The engineering team was based in Toronto, Canada, so we had daily scrum to sync. We had about five engineers for the team. The head of UX was also the Scrum Master. It was interesting to work with more than 50% of the team being in a different country and time zone!

Achievers' main goal was to get people to redeem their points.

That was how we made everyone happy. The employee would get the presents of their choice (as opposed to a company pen or an alarm clock); the HR team would be able to show ROI to their bosses; and we made money and helped creating stickiness around the Achievers platform. This wasn't easy to do, because believe it or not, people didn't like redeeming their points! Think about your airline miles points. Have you redeemed them for something lately?

Achievers didn't have a mobile solution around 2013, and the projects below were the design for their first mobile web app for the Marketplace, the shopping experience, and the Surveys feature. The product design process included: competitive analysis, design evaluation, lo-fi design, review & feedback, hi-fi design, and implementation. The design was for web browser view, because at that time, Achievers still believed that web browser experience was better than native apps. The tools that I used are: OmniGraffle, Adobe Illustrator, InVision, and I believe we used a tool called SpecKing for handing out specs to the engineering team. Oh, we also used a handful of video conference solutions, like Hangouts, webex, BlueJeans, and Slack.
